WoW: Forever Legacy System guide: Legacy Points, perks, cap and rewards

World of Warcraft

WoW: Forever Legacy System explained: 65 Legacy Challenges, the 16-point cap per character, all perk trees, rewards and how Hardcore will work.

The Legacy System is WoW: Forever’s new account-wide progression. You complete Legacy Challenges to earn Legacy Points, spend them on small perks for each character, and unlock cosmetic rewards along the way. It went live with the game on November 4, at 3 p.m. PST (8 p.m. BRT). Everything below comes from Blizzard’s Legacy System overview.

Key facts

  • 65 challenges at launch, one point each, shared by all non-Hardcore characters on your Battle.net account
  • Spending cap: 16 points per character at launch
  • Alts are optional: one character can earn up to 29 points
  • Unlocks with your first point, usually your first character reaching level 25. Open it with the shield icon or the Y key

How to earn Legacy Points

  • Classes (27): reach level 25, 45 and 60 with each class.
  • Tradeskills (18): reach 150, 225 and 300 in each non-gathering primary profession.
  • PvP (12): ranks 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14; Exalted with each battleground reputation; the week 4, 7 and 10 quests of the Field of Honor season.
  • Adventure (2): explore the whole world map on one character, and finish the Lord Valthalak dungeon set questline.
  • Dungeons (3): kill the final boss in every level 15–25, 26–45 and 46–60 dungeon.
  • Raids (3): Onyxia, all 13 Hyjal Summit bosses and all 8 Barrow Deeps bosses.

You can also unlock the system early by reaching 150 in a crafting profession or exploring the full map.

The three perk trees

Each character spends points on its own, so a gatherer alt and a PvP main can pick different perks.

  • Professions: Working Overtime (more skill-ups, Lockpicking included), Bountiful Harvest (extra scarce resources from mining, herbalism and skinning), Bartering (cheaper vendors), Performance Bonus (more Merchant’s Favor), Master Chef, Luremaster and Dedicated Study.
  • Adventure: Well Rested (bigger, faster rested XP), Thrill of Adventure (health and mana after kills), High Alert, Field Guide, Field Medicine, Talented (talent points up to 5 levels early) and Frequent Flier.
  • Resourcefulness: Gourmand, The Quick and the Dead (faster corpse runs and free buffs after a wipe), Reinforce, For Great Honor, Permanence, Diplomat and Reagent Economy (no purchasable reagents for class abilities).

Rewards

Points also fill an account-wide reward track. At launch it has four rewards: the Replica Ironforge Air Rifle toy, the Spectral Bear Cub pet, the Spectral Bear Tabard and the Reins of the Spectral Bear mount. Blizzard plans new rewards with each content update.

What about Hardcore?

Hardcore is not available at launch. When it arrives, challenges done on normal realms will not count there, but a challenge earned in Hardcore counts on every ruleset. Hardcore will get 12 challenges of its own to replace the PvP ones.

Where to start

Since 16 points fit on one character, there is no need to roll alts on day one. Level your main, pick a crafting profession, and keep the dungeon and raid points in mind. For picking a class, see our class and race guide; for launch times and bundles, our launch post; for endgame, the raids and dungeons guide. More on the WoW hub.
