Guild Wars 2 makes Living World Season 2 free for everyone
As of October 13, Living World Season 2 is free for all level-80 characters, and Seasons 3–5 unlock with the matching expansions.
On October 13, 2026, ArenaNet reworked how Living World content is sold in Guild Wars 2. Living World Season 2 is now free for every account with a level 80 character (same model as Season 1), and Seasons 3–5 are bundled into the expansions that follow them instead of being sold episode by episode.

What changed
- Living World Season 2: free with the base game once you have a level 80 character. Bridges core story into Heart of Thorns without a separate purchase.
- Seasons 3 and 4: included with the Heart of Thorns + Path of Fire bundle. Missing episodes unlock automatically if you already own those expansions.
- Season 5 (The Icebrood Saga): included with End of Dragons. Missing episodes unlock automatically for existing owners.
- Individual Living World purchases: gone. Content is either free (S1/S2) or tied to expansions (S3–S5).
New and updated bundles
- Elder Dragon Saga bundle: Heart of Thorns, Path of Fire, End of Dragons + Living World Seasons 3, 4 and 5.
- Astral Ward Saga bundle (new): Secrets of the Obscure, Janthir Wilds, Visions of Eternity.
- Complete Collection: all six expansions plus Living World Seasons 3–5 (S1 and S2 stay free).
- Starter Pack: now also includes a Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic, 5 Teleport to Friend devices, and 2 Black Lion Chest Keys. Prior buyers get the extras by in-game mail.
Refunds and caveats
- If you bought any Living World content after September 12, 2026, ArenaNet says you get an automatic gem refund for that value (including partial refunds on the old Elder Dragon Saga Complete Collection).
- Starter Pack extras or the gem refund still missing? ArenaNet asked players who didn’t have them by October 15 to contact support@arena.net.
- Character Slots and Shared Inventory Slots from a bundle do not stack again if you already own the expansions inside it.
- Expansions are still sold individually. Steam applies dynamic bundle pricing based on what you already own.
Unlocking Season 2
- Log a level 80 character and open the Living World panel: Season 2 should be unlocked with no purchase.
- If you own HoT/PoF/EoD, check that Seasons 3–5 episodes you were missing are now available.
- Don’t look for Living World episodes in the Gem Store: they are no longer sold separately.
- Returning players who stopped before Heart of Thorns can run Season 2 for free before buying an expansion.
