OSRS Jagex Account migration: Legacy logins end November 17
Old School RuneScape Legacy accounts must move to Jagex Accounts by November 17, 2026 or lose login access. What changes, how to upgrade and RuneLite.
Jagex has set the date: on November 17, 2026, every Legacy account in Old School RuneScape (and RuneScape) must move to a Jagex Account. If you have not upgraded by then, you will not be able to log in until you finish the one-time upgrade. Your characters stay safe, and the upgrade only needs your current username or login email and password.
Quick summary
- Deadline: November 17, 2026, when Legacy logins stop working
- What you need: your username or login email and password; no need to verify the old email
- Steam, Apple, Google and Game Center logins: no change to log in, but you need a Jagex Account for the Launcher and some website features such as Support
- Also new: character cap raised from 20 to 50, and an Apple Silicon Launcher by the end of October
What happens on November 17?
Jagex will switch off Legacy logins. After that, a Legacy account cannot get into the game until it completes the upgrade to a Jagex Account. Nothing is deleted: Jagex says accounts and characters remain stored, and the next time you try to log in you will be prompted to upgrade before you can play. Jagex says over 89% of active players already use Jagex Accounts.
Do Steam and mobile players need to do anything?
Not to log in. Players who use Steam, Apple, Google or Game Center logins can keep logging in as they do today. However, you will need to create a Jagex Account if you want to use the Jagex Launcher or reach some website features, such as Support.
How to upgrade before the deadline
- Have your current login ready: username or login email, plus password.
- You do not need access to the email on your old Legacy account. You can choose the inbox you prefer for the new Jagex Account login.
- Turn on two-factor authentication for that email inbox, as Jagex recommends.
- Jagex says the process only takes a few minutes, and new reminders will appear when you log in if you have not upgraded yet.
Doing it now avoids being locked out on November 17, which could be a busy day for Support.
Will RuneLite and third-party clients still work?
Yes. Jagex says Approved Third Party Clients stay available through the Launcher, so you can keep using RuneLite plugins as you do today. Jagex also says the Launcher’s earlier stability problems during big updates such as Leagues have not come back in the past year.
50 characters per Jagex Account and Apple Silicon Launcher
After player feedback, the character cap on a Jagex Account went up from 20 to 50. On macOS, Jagex plans to release an Apple Silicon Launcher by the end of October, ahead of the macOS 28 requirement next year. This raises the minimum Mac spec for the Launcher, and Jagex will then add Apple Silicon support to the game clients.
